Delta state Nigeria Background

Delta State was defined out of the former Bendel State on 27 August 1991. The then Military President, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, recognized Delta state chose “Asaba” a prominent town within the “Northwestern lower Niger” as capital city. The proposed capital was a virgin land in the heart of the two constituent divisions that constitutes the Northwestern lower Niger. The name “Bendel” (Ben-Del) coined from the old Benin and Delta Provinces of Western Region-Delta to reflect the integration of Benin and Delta provinces.

Delta State is a state in Nigeria, comprising mainly Igbo (Anioma people), Urhobo, Isoko, Ijaw and Itsekiri. The whole ethnic-groups that comprise the Delta are administratively grouped into three senatorial districts namely Delta North, DeltaSouth and Delta Central for easy administrative purposes and consists of 25 local Government Areas.

The present state governor is RT. HON. SHERIFF FRANCIS OROHWEDOR OBOREVWORI.

The Igboid groups  such as Ika (Agbor), Enuani (Asaba), Ukwuani/Ndokwa (Kwale). The only group that has major affinities with Igbos is the Enuanis (Asaba). The Ukwuanis have some cultural affinities with Urhobo/Isoko.

Delta State is an oil and Agricultural producing State in Nigeria. It is situated in the Region known as the South-South geo-political zone and Bordered on the North by Edo State, the East by Anambra and River State, and the South by Bayelsa State while to the West is the Bight of Benin which covers about 160 Kilometers of the State’s Coastline.

Who We Are

Delta State Association was established in 2013 and is registered with a patent office in Helsinki, Finland. It is located in the greater Helsinki region of Finland. The association is non-governmental, non-political, and non-profit. Our aims include bringing together people of Delta State origin that are domiciled in Finland in order to strengthen our social-economic and cultural heritage. DSAF already put in place an effective support system for all members. These are among other efforts to further promote proper integration and welfare packages for members. Vital role in promoting societal well-being and addressing diverse needs.

Social-Cultural Integration: Supporting immigrant communities through language training, cultural exchange, and inclusion programs

Community Building: Organizing activities to strengthen local engagement and social cohesion.

Volunteering and Capacity Building: Empowering individuals through training and volunteer opportunities.

What We Do

The association organises interactive sections on a regular basis to boost our social-cultural activities, while at the same time encouraging and maintaining regular contact with members. We arrange several events annually to actualise our core objectives and goals. DSAF engages and partakes in numerous projects that create impact on our members and community in Finland. The association also cooperates and partners with other organisations including the Nigerian Embassy, the Nigeria Community in Finland, Moniheli, and Pluralismisaatio.

Education and Awareness: organizing workshops, seminars, and campaigns to share knowledge and raise awareness.

Project Management/Fundraising and Resource Management: Collecting funds and resources to support its mission and objectives.

Service Provision: Offering specific services to members or the wider community.
